Seasonal Workamping Jobs at Denali RV Park and Motel

Denali RV Park in Alaska - View from above

For Workampers looking for a true bucket list experience, spending a summer in Alaska offers something completely different from the typical seasonal job. Denali RV Park and Motel provides Workampers the opportunity to live and work in Alaska’s interior while earning income during one of the busiest and most rewarding travel seasons in the state.

Located near one of the most iconic destinations in North America, this Workamping opportunity combines long summer days, steady work, and an unforgettable setting that draws visitors from around the world.

About Denali RV Park and Motel

Denali RV Park and Motel is located just six miles from the entrance to Denali National Park. While the famous mountain itself lies deeper inside the park, Workampers are surrounded by expansive mountain ranges, wildlife, and the unique experience of Alaska’s near-constant daylight during the summer months.

The park includes 89 RV sites, most of which are full hookup, along with pull-through sites, motel rooms, and cabins. Its size and location make it a popular stop for both independent travelers and large caravans touring Alaska.

Seasonal Workamping Positions Available

Because Alaska’s tourism season is short but intense, owner Joanne Schmidt hires several Workampers each year to help manage the high volume of guests. Positions vary based on experience and availability and may include guest services, office support, housekeeping, maintenance, and construction projects.

Workampers assist with checking guests in, guiding them to their sites, managing reservations, operating the gift shop, and answering questions about the area. Many guests are international travelers with limited English proficiency, so patience and clear communication are essential.

Housekeeping staff help maintain motel rooms, cabins, and public spaces. Maintenance workers keep utilities running, repair equipment, and respond quickly when guests need assistance. In recent seasons, construction help has also been needed for new cabins, glamping tents, and guest facilities.

Pay, Housing, and Living Arrangements

Starting pay at Denali RV Park and Motel is $16 per hour, with increases based on experience and performance. Workampers receive a free RV site, which is a significant benefit given Alaska’s seasonal housing demand.

For those who prefer not to bring an RV to Alaska, the park also offers apartments and motel rooms for staff. This flexibility makes the job accessible to a wider range of Workampers, including those flying in for the season.

Joanne welcomes singles, couples, and families. One family even brought their young grandson for the summer, and he quickly became a favorite among guests, helping create a welcoming atmosphere for visiting families.

Life Outside of Work in Alaska

While Denali National Park is the primary draw for many visitors, Joanne emphasizes that Workampers do not need to enter the park to experience Alaska’s natural beauty. Numerous hiking trails are located outside the park boundary, including one that begins just beyond the campground entrance.

Guests and staff alike enjoy nearby activities such as river rafting, ATV excursions, helicopter tours, and flightseeing adventures. The town of Healy, located a short drive away, provides access to groceries, fuel, dining, and other essentials.

The long daylight hours and fast-paced season create a strong sense of camaraderie among staff, making it a rewarding environment for those who enjoy teamwork and an active work setting.

What Makes a Successful Alaska Workamper

Joanne says the Workampers who thrive in Alaska bring energy, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic. The days are long and the season moves quickly, but the experience is deeply rewarding for those who enjoy hard work, beautiful scenery, and working alongside people from around the world.

The park recruits year round and receives many inquiries from people who discover its Workamping listings. Applicants are encouraged to submit a professional resume so the staff can better match experience and skills to available roles.
