Empowering Your Workamper Resume: A Key Tool in Your Job Search

Printed resume laying on a desk next to a keyboard and pen.

Your Workamper Resume is one of the most important tools in your job search. It’s often the first impression an employer has of you – and its purpose is simple: to land you an interview. A strong resume highlights your skills, abilities, and experience in a way that makes employers stop and take notice.

Think of your resume like a wrench in your RV tool kit. Just as you adjust a wrench to fit the job, you should adjust your resume to fit the position you’re applying for. With a few strategic changes, you can empower your resume and make it a powerful marketing tool.

Customize Your Resume to Match the Job

No two Workamping jobs are exactly alike. That’s why you should tweak your resume for each application.

  • Match your objective to the ad. Instead of writing “Seeking campground work as a couple,” mention the actual roles listed in the ad: “He – maintenance and propane dispensing; she – camper check-ins and store sales.”
  • Use the same keywords the employer uses. If the ad says “landscaping,” don’t just write “gardening.” Employers often skim resumes for exact words.
  • Reorder your skills. If the job is heavy on reservations and customer service, lead with those. Put retail or sales experience further down the list.
  • Highlight the most relevant experience. If you’ve worked in multiple areas — maintenance, office work, guest services — focus on the pieces that match the ad and downplay the rest.

Tip: If you regularly apply for two very different types of jobs (e.g. maintenance vs. retail), keep separate versions of your resume ready. That way, you’re always sending the most relevant one.

Use Strong Action Verbs

Employers want to see energy and initiative in your resume. Swap out generic phrases like “worked in maintenance” for action-driven statements.

Instead of:

Worked in maintenance

Try:

Maintained and repaired machinery in a welding shop; established procedures that reduced downtime.

Here are a few powerful verbs to consider adding:

assembled, assessed, budgeted, completed, coordinated, developed, established, evaluated, generated, implemented, landscaped, maintained, organized, repaired, resolved, streamlined, trained.

These words not only describe what you did – they show how you contributed and made a difference.
