“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you’ve imagined.” – Henry David Thoreau
Years ago, I visited Los Angeles with my granddaughter and her best friend. Like many teenagers, they wanted a taste of Hollywood. We spent a day on tours of celebrity homes, studio lots, and Hollywood Boulevard.
Our guides weren’t famous actors – at least not yet. One was a bus driver who dreamed of producing a reality show. Another had worked on TV sets before landing a tour guide job at Sony Studios. Both were chasing their Hollywood dreams, step by step.
That experience reminded me of something important: dreams don’t happen all at once. They grow as you take action. And the same is true for anyone who dreams of hitting the road in an RV or starting a Workamping lifestyle.
What Hollywood Can Teach Us About RV Dreams
Create a Clear Vision
The young men we met in Hollywood could picture themselves in the industry. For RVers, creating a vision is just as important. Start with a vision board of RVs, destinations, and experiences you want to enjoy. Keep it somewhere you’ll see every day – it keeps your dream front and center.
Keep Learning
Our bus driver knew every detail of Hollywood culture. He was immersing himself in his industry. You can do the same by learning about RV life through articles, courses, and resources at Workamper.com. The more you know, the smoother your transition will be.
Take Small Steps
Neither guide had landed their “big break,” but they were working in the field and building connections. If you want to RV, start small:
- Open a savings account for an RV
- Rent or borrow an RV for a weekend trip
- Attend an RV show
- Begin downsizing your possessions
Put Action Behind Your Goals
Before Hollywood, one guide had worked on a TV show, while the other assisted with props. They were getting experience. You can too – create a Workamper resume, try a short-term volunteer assignment, or apply for local Workamping opportunities to build confidence.
Build a Plan and Timeline
Both aspiring Hollywood dreamers were stacking small jobs to build toward bigger goals. For RVing, your plan may include selling a house, choosing a domicile, or paying off debt. Write down the steps and set target dates to stay accountable.
Turning RV Dreams Into Reality
Dreams are wonderful, but without action they stay just that – dreams. Whether your goal is to Workamp in Alaska, run a campground store, or travel the country full-time, the path forward is the same: vision, learning, small steps, action, and a plan.
As Vance Havner once said: “The vision must be followed by the venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps — we must step up the stairs.”
If RVing is your dream, start now. Use the tools and support available at Workamper.com, and don’t let fear or hesitation hold you back. One step at a time, you can turn the dream of RV life into your new reality.
