Working inside Yellowstone National Park is a dream for many Workampers — and for those hired by Yellowstone General Stores, it’s an everyday reality.
Operated by Delaware North, Yellowstone General Stores offer Workampers paid seasonal jobs, on-site living options, and a front-row seat to one of the most iconic landscapes in the country.
“You wake up inside Yellowstone, work a paid job, and on your days off, the nation’s first national park becomes your backyard,” said Kayla Clark, staffing manager for Delaware North.
Clark recently joined recruiter Linda Marquart for a webinar explaining what it’s really like to Workamp inside the park — from job expectations to daily life in a remote, world-class setting. Watch the webinar recording here on the Workamper Jobinars page.
A Place Like No Other
Yellowstone’s environment shapes every part of the Workamping experience.
“You’re surrounded by geysers, waterfalls, canyons, forests, and wildlife,” Clark said. “Seeing bison and elk regularly is normal here. Bears and wolves are part of the landscape, too.”
That setting fosters both stewardship and connection. Workampers often describe the experience as demanding but deeply rewarding, with the park’s remoteness naturally encouraging community.
“People form close-knit relationships because you live and work together,” Clark said. “There’s a real sense of camaraderie in that.”
Workamping Jobs and Schedules
Yellowstone General Stores operate 11 retail locations across the park’s 2.2 million acres, serving millions of visitors each year. Positions are primarily:
- Retail associates
- Food service team members
Supporting roles may include custodial staff, warehouse workers, drivers, electricians, and employee dining room staff.
Most positions are full-time seasonal roles, with schedules ranging from 32–36 hours per week, up to a 40-hour maximum. Workampers typically work five consecutive days, followed by two days off.
“Schedules are tight because of visitor volume,” Marquart said. “We depend on everyone being there when they’re scheduled.”
- Base pay starts at $17.75/hour
- Seasons generally run April through October, depending on location
- Full-season commitments are preferred, though three-month minimums may be considered
“Out of about 420 team members who worked previously, 265 returned in 2025,” Clark said. “Once people experience it, many want to come back.”

Who Works at Yellowstone?
The Workamper community at Yellowstone is diverse. In a typical season, team members range in age from 18 to 90 and include:
- Retirees
- Couples and solo Workampers
- College students
- International workers
Families are welcome in employee RV parks, though childcare must be managed independently.
Housing and Meal Options
Workampers live on or near their work locations, either in dormitory housing or designated employee RV parks.
Dormitory Housing
- $50 per week, deducted from paychecks
- Participation in the full employee meal plan is required
RV Sites
- $50–$80 per week, depending on location
- Utilities included
- One site fee per RV (not per person)
RV sites typically include water, sewer, and electric hookups. Some locations offer 50-amp service, others 30-amp. Comfort stations are limited.
“All RVs must be fully self-contained,” Marquart said. “Because of wildlife, we don’t allow tents, cars, or soft-sided units.”
Pets are permitted in RV parks under strict National Park Service rules and must remain leashed, attended, or secured inside RVs when owners are away.
Meal Plans
- Full plan: $75/week per person (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
- Lunch-only option (RVers): $37.50/week
Lunch is the largest meal of the day and typically includes a protein, starch, vegetables, salad bar, and dessert. RV residents may opt in or out with limited changes during the season.

Technology and Connectivity
Connectivity inside Yellowstone is limited.
- Cell service is inconsistent; Verizon generally performs best
- Internet access is comparable to what many experienced 10 years ago
- Some dorms and stores use Starlink, but speeds vary with usage
- No Wi-Fi is provided in RV campgrounds
Workampers who rely on remote work should plan carefully and understand that connectivity can be unpredictable even with Starlink.
Mail, Health, and Logistics
Most park villages have seasonal post offices that allow mail forwarding within defined start and end dates. Packages are routed through a central warehouse in West Yellowstone, which can add several days of delay.
All employees participate in a mandatory seasonal health program, costing $8.12 per week, deducted from paychecks.
“This is not insurance,” Marquart said. “It helps fund medical services inside the park.”
Because store locations range from 6,600 to 7,800 feet in elevation, Workampers with health conditions affected by altitude or physical labor should consult their doctors before applying.
Uniforms and Expectations
Yellowstone General Stores provide uniform tops and hats. Employees supply:
- Blue jeans
- Closed-toe shoes
Appearance standards are enforced, and name tags must be worn at all times.
“Hair must be neat and natural in color,” Marquart said. “Tattoos must be covered or conservative.”
Work environments are fast-paced and physically demanding. Most roles require being on your feet for extended periods and some lifting.
Exploring Yellowstone on Your Days Off
With nearly 1,000 miles of hiking trails, Yellowstone offers unmatched recreation opportunities.
Employees may participate in the Yellowstone Employee Recreation Program, which includes guided hikes, rafting trips, backpacking excursions, and special events. National Park Service ranger programs and Yellowstone Forever educational offerings provide additional learning opportunities.
Delaware North also promotes wellness initiatives, including hiking challenges and environmental stewardship programs.

Employee Benefits
In addition to weekly pay for every hour worked, benefits include:
- 30% employee discount at stores
- 50% discount during select employee days
- Free entry into Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks
- Medical, dental, and vision benefits for eligible seasonal employees
- Bonus for completing a full seasonal commitment

For many Workampers, Yellowstone General Stores offer more than just a job.
“It’s a chance to work hard, live simply, and experience something truly special,” Clark said.
