Ensuring the Perfect Workamping Job: Your Essential Pre-acceptance Checklist

Imagine this: an idyllic-sounding opportunity pops into your email inbox, courtesy of the Job Alerts feature included with your Workamper News membership. You think, “This could be the one!” But, before you get too excited, put on your investigator cap and delve into the details.

Landing a Workamping job is exciting, but before you say “yes,” it’s important to make sure the position is truly the right fit for you. Too often, Workampers accept a role without fully understanding the duties, hours, or site details and end up disappointed once the season begins.

This pre-acceptance checklist will help you ask the right questions and confirm the details, so you can head into your next job with confidence.

Research Before Communicating with the Employer

Exception: If the position advertised is for an immediate start and sounds like a potential match for you, act quickly to get your foot in the door. Send an inquiry following any instructions provided in the ad. While you’ll still need to perform due diligence, quick action can prevent you from being last in line!

Start with the “low-hanging fruit” of your information search – a general internet search. Usually, the business name will be included in their help-wanted ad. Enter that into your preferred search engine and see what information pops up.

1. Explore the Business Website:

  • Make a thorough pass through of the business’s website. Check out the “About Us” page, policies, terms, guidelines, rules, and any photos available. This can provide valuable insight into the business’s operations and ethos.

2. Check Review Sites:

  • If your internet search results include links to review websites (like Google, Yelp, TripAdvisor, and social media sites such as Facebook), read some reviews. Although these are likely from customers rather than Workampers, they can still give you a sense of the business environment.

Familiarizing yourself with the business can answer some of your questions while generating new ones to ask during your interview.

Use the Employer Research Tools on Workamper.com

Utilize these three tools available to Workamper Seeker and Pro members at Workamper.com to learn even more about an employer you are considering working for.

1. Employer Profiles:

  • Login to Workamper.com and search for the employer’s name on the Employer Profiles and Reviews tool. You will be able to learn about the company and how they utilize Workampers in their operations.

2. Workamper Experience Reviews:

  • This tool allows Workampers to provide feedback about their experiences with particular employers. The reviews section can be found on the employer’s profile page. Read these reviews to see if any relevant information has been posted.
  • Hearing from Workampers who have previously worked for the employer can be invaluable, but take their feedback with a grain of salt. Everyone’s experiences and preferences vary, and what was a negative for one person might not be for you.

3. Member Map:

  • Find the city where the job is located and see if any Workampers are there now- contact them to see if they’re working for the employer you’re researching.

Get Prepared for the Interview

After doing as much research as possible on your own, it’s time to get details directly from the employer. Follow any instructions in the help-wanted ad to set up an interview, which may be over the phone, via webcam, or in-person if you’re nearby.

Be prepared with a list of questions to ask during the interview. If you’re unsure what questions to ask, check out this blog post for more guidance: Questions to Ask Workamper Employers to Set Clear Expectations.

If the employer is unwilling to provide the information you need, consider if you want to proceed further with them.
